Mixed Elite Category

Who should enter the mixed elite category?
 
If you have competed a number of times in similar events, work in or come from a fitness background and love pushing yourself (and your friends) when it comes to a competition - this is for you!

• You have participated in a number of fitness competitions before 
• You have been training regularly for some time
• You compete regularly throughout the year
• You have competed regularly in everyday/scaled categories and want to challenge yourself with your teammates
• Half of the team members might need to carry out TTB & Pull Ups

Mixed Everyday Category

Who should enter the mixed everyday category?

This is for the first timers, the ones who have either never done a fitness competition or have competed a few times and want to gain experience. No high skill movements. The perfect opportunity to get a proper taste of fitness and fun, with friends, yet still getting the full athlete treatment. New friends, goodie bag, professional photos and hopefully a tan - guaranteed. 

 

  • You have never done a fitness competition before 

  • You have competed in a few competitions that don’t require high skill movements 

  • You enjoy going to  fitness classes a few times a week

Competition Categories

We have two different categories at The Island Games for athletes to choose from: The Mixed Elite category & The Mixed Everyday category. Outlined below is a guide to some weights and movements relevant to the category.

Movement Standards

Mixed Elite Category

Kettlebell weight: 24kg / 20kg
Dumbbell weight: 22.5kg / 15kg
Sandbag to shoulder: 70kg / 45kg
Deadlift: 80kg / 55kg
Barbell Ground-to-overhead: 60kg / 40kg
Wall balls: 9kg / 6kg
Pull ups: Minimum 2 Athletes
T2B: Minimum 2 Athletes
Skipping: Double unders: Minimum 2 Athletes
Rope climb: Minimum 2 Athletes
Swimming / water activity: Minimum 2 Athletes

Weights and movements you could expect to see programmed in this category include: 

Mixed Everyday Category

Kettlebell weight: 20kg / 16kg
Dumbbell weight: 15kg / 10kg
Sandbag to shoulder: 45kg/25kg
Deadlift: 60kg / 35kg
Skipping: Single Unders
Wall balls: 9kg / 6kg
Knees-to-elbows: Minimum 2 Athletes
Swimming / water activity: Minimum 2 Athletes

You should be able to do 5+ reps of these weights / movements.
The movements mentioned are not exhaustive and may not necessarily be included in the workouts during the weekend.

There will be no high skilled gymnastics such as muscle ups and no handstands.
