  • How do I register for the competition?
    Very Easy ! Registration can be completed online via Team Aretas ! Early registration is recommended, as spots are limited.
  • What are the eligibility requirements to participate?
    Participants must be at least 18 years old and should be fit and healthy.
  • What categories are available in the competition?
    The competition has 2 categories, Elite and Everyday - both mixed teams of 4 - check out are category information here.
  • I’ve never done a competition before, will I be able to do it ?
    Absolutely! If you are new to the world of fitness competitions and fitness in general, the Everyday Category is for you. Have a look at our category & movement standards.
  • Is The Island Games just for people who do CrossFit?
    No no no. The Island Games is a functional fitness event, so whether you love Hyrox, an F45 enthusiast or an advocate of the boutique fitness studio round the corner, our experienced Head of Programming Will Kane, is designing workouts suitable for all levels.
  • Will the workouts be announced beforehand?
    Yes, workouts will be announced in advance, but there might be some surprises ! Athletes should be prepared for the unknown and unexpected.
  • What is the judging criteria?
    Judges will evaluate each athlete’s performance based on movement standards, range of motion, and the correct completion of reps. No-reps (failed reps) will be called for any movement that doesn’t meet the standard.
  • I am desperate to compete but don’t have a team, what should I do?
    No problem! Drop us an email on hello@theislandgames.co.uk and we will do our best to find you a team. We do suggest uploading a story on Instagram and tagging us ! You can also join us behind the scenes as a volunteer (you still get plenty of discounts and a goodie bag).
  • We can’t find a fourth member of our team...

  • Can we change team members ?
    Yes, this can easily be done via the Team Aretas Platform.
  • If we can no longer make it to Malta can we get a refund?
    The event is non refundable, however please get in touch and we will do our best to help.
  • Do you have any accommodation recommendations?
    Yes! We have partnered up with a number of hotels close to the event venue, where we will be offering some amazing discounts to all our participants. Whether you are on a budget or looking at treating yourself with a sea view room - Hotel Deals are coming soon.
  • Do we all compete across all 3 days?
    Yes, both elite and everyday categories will compete on all 3 days.
  • What time will it start and finish?
    Start - Friday 9th May - Team Registration will be from 12:00 to 15:00. Followed by the briefing at 15:30. First heat starts around 16:30. Finish - Sunday 11th May - we plan on having the last heat finish around 14:00, which will be followed by the podium and an after party. Exact times will be confirmed closer to the event date.
  • Will there be prizes for the winners?
    Yes, each workout for both categories will include a prize together with the Podium on Sunday for the teams placing 1st, 2nd & 3rd in both categories. Prizes to be announced shortly.
  • How many workouts will there be?
    Friday Night - 1 Sunset Workout Saturday - 3 to 4 Workouts Sunday - 1 Workout (followed by an after party)
  • What should I bring to the competition?
    Firstly, your energy and good vibes! Participants should bring comfortable competition clothes and any accessories usually used (such as grips, belt etc) to compete in, a beach towel, a bathing suit (if you plan on having a dip), suncream and sunglasses. A change of clothes for the after party is recommended (this will be chill). Leave the rest to us!
  • When and what time is Team Registration?
    Friday 9th May - 12:00 to 15:00 - Location tbc (close to the competition venue).
  • Does the whole team need to be present for Registration?
    No, one team member is enough!
  • What will be programmed in the workouts?
    Expect everyday movements of push, pull, run, carry, lift, throw (and some swimming for some of the team members). The elite category will have some heavier weights and some additional movements such as toes to bar and pull ups (for half the team), whilst the everyday category only includes movements that everyone can do with lighter weights. Will Kane, our Head of Programming, has years of experience, so rest assured you are well taken care of. Just make sure you look at our category & movement standards.
  • Will there be any swimming?
    Yes, there will be some swimming - only 2 persons from each time might need to swim - this won’t be more than 50m laps in clear, sandy waters with safety guards all around.
  • Are there any safety precautions I should be aware of?
    Athletes should ensure they are physically prepared for high-intensity workouts. If you feel unwell or injured during the competition, notify a judge or event staff immediately. Medical personnel will be on-site to assist if needed.
  • Is it suitable for kids?
    Yes, kids are more than welcome. There is also a public kids’ play area in case they get bored!

  • I don’t want to compete but would love to be part of the team...
    We can’t wait to have you with us. We are looking for some amazing people to join our team on the weekend, helping us out with judging and running the event.   • Can spectators attend the event?
    Yes, spectators are welcome to attend the event. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door, depending on availability.
